Caves and Abyss
Gouffre de Proumeyssac
Already famous in the 18th century for it's terrifying
legends, the "Gouffre de Proumeyssac" was only explored in
1907. Baptised the "crystal cathedral" Proumeyssac is today
the biggest restored cavity in Perigord. By means of a tunnel,
you can easily access vast underground vault supported by
walls adorned with a multitude of crystallisations of an
exceptional density. A light show accompanied by music
completes the originality of this site. The 45 minute visit
commented by knowledgeable guides make it a memorable
experience.

Grottes de Lascaux
The
western edges of the Massif Central and the northern slopes of
the Pyrenees are noted for an exceptional concentration of
Palaeolithic caves. In fact, there are no fewer than one
hundred and thirty sanctuaries, the most renowned of which is
Lascaux. Located on the left bank of the river Vézère, Lascaux
is set a little apart from the traditional prehistoric sites
further downstream, between Moustier and Bugue. The excellent
state of conservation of our prehistoric heritage is due to
the numerous rock-shelters and natural caves in limestone,
which dot the landscape.
